Japan auction buying guide

How to bid on Yahoo Auctions Japan from overseas

Discover Japanese collectibles, cameras, watches and vintage items on Yahoo Auctions Japan, also presented to overseas shoppers as JDirectItems Auction. JPS staff handle eligible bidding requests manually during 07:00–22:30 JST. Submitting a request does not mean a marketplace bid has been placed, and a bid does not guarantee a win.

  1. Find an auction

Search listings and check the ending time, seller feedback, photos, condition and Japan domestic shipping charges.

  2. Fund your wallet and request a bid

Choose your maximum bid and review the service fee. JPS reserves that amount plus the fee in your wallet. Allow at least 30 minutes before closing for bids, or 60 minutes for Buy Now; outside operating hours, this lead time starts at the next handling time.

  3. Arrange delivery if you win

After JPS confirms the result and your item reaches the Japan warehouse, request packing and international delivery. Review shipping costs and destination import charges.

FAQ

JDirectItems Auction Japan — common questions

Is Yahoo Auctions Japan the same as JDirectItems Auction?

JDirectItems Auction is the overseas-facing name used for Yahoo Auctions Japan listings. In Japan, the marketplace still uses the Yahoo! Auctions name. You may see both names in listings and buying guides.

Can I bid from the USA without a Japanese address?

You can submit a request for an eligible auction through JPS and use its Japan warehouse. Staff handle bids manually during 07:00–22:30 JST, not instantly or through automatic sniping. Requests outside these hours need enough time remaining after handling resumes at 07:00 JST.

Can I cancel my bid after placing it?

You can cancel a pending JPS request before staff place the marketplace bid. Once staff have placed it, cancellation through your dashboard is no longer available. A winning bid creates a payment obligation, so check the listing and your maximum amount first.

What should I check before bidding?

Review seller feedback, actual photos, condition notes, accessories, domestic shipping charges and the ending time. Machine translations may miss details. Ensure your wallet covers the maximum bid plus the service fee and leave sufficient handling time.

What happens if I am outbid or the auction ends early?

A request does not guarantee placement or a win. Other buyers or marketplace rules may affect the result. Check your JPS bidding dashboard. After staff confirm a lost auction, the reserved wallet funds are released; after a win, unused reserved funds are released.

What is the final cost of a won auction?

Budget for the winning price, JPS purchasing fee, Japan domestic shipping, packing or optional services, international shipping and destination import taxes. The winning price plus service fee is settled from your reserved wallet funds. International shipping is determined after parcel preparation.
