Overview

Japanese electronics can be attractive for domestic-only models, audio gear, cameras, gaming hardware, vintage electronics, and specialty devices.

The main risk is assuming that a product sold in Japan will work exactly the same way overseas.

Use the exact manufacturer model number.

Do not rely only on translated title, product family name, or exterior appearance.

Similar-looking products can have different regional specifications.

Japan commonly uses 100V AC.

Before buying, confirm whether the device supports 100V only or a wider voltage range, or whether it uses an external power adapter.

Do not assume every device is dual voltage.

Japan commonly uses Type A plugs.

Physical plug fit does not prove voltage compatibility.

For connected devices, check LTE/5G bands, Wi-Fi standards, carrier locking, eSIM/SIM support, regulatory region, and app availability.

A Japan-market phone or router may not work fully in another country.

Check whether English menus are available, firmware region can be changed, an app account is region-locked, or updates require a Japanese account.

Japanese domestic warranty coverage may not apply overseas.

Treat warranty eligibility separately from product functionality.

Electronics may include lithium batteries.

International shipping can depend on installed vs. spare battery, watt-hour rating, battery condition, and carrier rules.

Damaged or swollen batteries may be non-shippable.

Look for tested functions, missing cables, corrosion, battery health, screen condition, repair history, and junk/as-is wording.

通電確認 may only mean the seller confirmed power.

It does not guarantee full function.
